Day 6 - The fishing boats

First… I wrote a post for yesterday but it’s having issues uploading… I’ll keep working on that.

I will say the last few days have gone by so fast but today, it is not the case.

Universe time has slown way down today. As such not a lot has been happening. Still very little wind so my plan to head into capo Verde to get fuel to take a quick rest and leave the next day is still in motion. I should arrive Tuesday and depart Wednesday morning.

Today has been a day dealing with massive fishing boats and their long lines. I’m not really sure how those nets work, but I do know most of these fishing boats don’t like to use AIS (we wonder why...), and today was no exception.

Our new Raymarine stuff really helped though as it could auto acquire the targets on radar and then send me an alert.

The first boat was okay but the second was getting way too close.

Many attempts to contact them on the radio failed, and then I noticed a long row of orange-colored balls speed from the fishing boat to my position.

Again not knowing how these lines work I quick throw open the headsail, shut the motor off, and drifted across the line.

I was really feeling I would get caught up in a line or thick rope but nothing and the fishing boat turned the other and left me alone.

Otherwise, today has been a day of reading.

Spotify somehow deleted my 600 podcasts I had downloaded. If anyone knows how to get them back… that would save my ass.

All the best from Polar Seal!
