The s****iest kind of sailboat maintenance work.

It HAD to be done at some points. We had been warned. We were advised to just pay the money, and have someone else doing it. We tried to hire someone, yet here we are: scraping off the antifouling from the hull and sanding it all. And man, it S***S.We were lucky and managed to take care of all our 12 x 4 meters hull in less than 3 days.The task was made easier by 3 factors:

• The guy we had hired last year to paint the hull had put some hard paint on top of the layer of soft paint we already had. This, people, is a REALLY stupid thing to do. The hard paint never really fastened on the soft paint and did not last 4 months. We launched Polar Seal in May 2017 and hauled her out again in September 2017 only to find out that the antifouling was completely flaking off. This ended-up playing in our favor this time, as the paint came off really easily when we scraped it. But dude is never touching our boat again.

• Our harbormaster lent us his sanding machine. We already had one, which enabled both Ryan and I to sand the hull at the same time. Major time saver.

• Our fairy Godmother came to the rescue, in the form of another Ryan helping us out one day. Ryan W, you are officially Boat Friend of the Year!  I wouldn't be writing at this time if it wasn't for your help, as we would probably still be working on the boat.

 Ryan (my Ryan) found it really satisfying to have done the work ourselves. I find it nice to know exactly what has been done to our boat. Scraping and sanding the boat ourselves was also a good learning experience, that saved us A LOT of cash (we estimate it saved us about 20 000 SEK / 1 700 $) That said, both Ryan and I are total wrecks right now (no fun), and we still have to take care of the painting.Temperatures in Sweden these days still won't allow the primer to cure correctly, and we might have to postpone the painting
