Sailing through the Canadian wild fires

In this episode, we finally set sail to leave Eastport. Unfortunately, it turns out it was bad decision. The Canadian wild fires looked like just a little haze in the sky when we were in the marina, but once we got out on the water, our throats itched, our eyes burned, and being out there just felt plain wrong. Turning back would have taken as much time as reaching our destination - West River - so we decided to keep going.

In West River we went to shore to attended a party organised by our friends Jen and Chad. Matt and Jessica from MJ Sailing and Duca and Roberta from Odd Life Crafting were also there. We made pizzas, ate the biggest American charcuterie board ever, and had an absolute blast.

The next day, we set sail with Duca and Roberta to reach Lake Ogleton. The guys had to take over the sailing because my eyes were hurting really badly from the smoke. We claimed a mooring ball on lake Ogleton and went to our friend Jeff’s place for a gourmet hoomemade fried rice.

Being delayed once again meant we could meet up with our friends twice more, which is awesome. It takes us an average of two weeks to say goodbye to our friends before we start a new adventure. This time was no exception.
