Sailing to NEW YORK!
In this episode, we finally leave the Chesapeake Bay, after too many months. If you like birds, you’ll want to check this one out because we sail close to some nesting ospreys and we get to see a chick up close! By the way did I tell you we almost got an osprey nest at the top of our mast?
This is our first big passage in a very long time. Our aim was to sail to Montauk on time to be at different work meetings, but we were delayed as we had to dodge thunder storm after thunder storm as soon as we left the Chesapeake. So we decided to head to Port Washington instead.
Because of tide and current times, we realised it made sense to spend the night in New York Harbor itself, somewhere between the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan. We arrived at night, so seeing the Statue of Liberty and the lights of Manhattan was pretty incredible. Waking up to the same sights the next morning was surreal, though! The next day, we sail the Hudson through more storms - yay. The moment was special nevertheless! We sailed our very own home past all the buildings and streets I had come across in films, series, and books through our lives.
Another highlight of this video ? We celebrated Mid-Summer with Swedish meatballs on our first night on anchor. Sorry, I don’t like pickled herring. Whoops.
