The BEST place to sail in Nova Scotia

After recreating a picture of Ryan and I in front of the anchorage in Lunenburg with Polar Seal behind us, we’re ready to set sail again.

We untie the lines from the mooring ball and head towards Chester, in Mahone Bay. This time we get to see the coast around Lunenburg. That’s right - there’s no fog and it’s a beautiful sunny day. Of course, the fog was waiting for us just at the edge of the Lunenburg Bay, though. We’re not nervous - our radar and 360 degree camera setup make navigating in fog easy and stress-free. Plus, we’re pretty experienced in sailing in low vis by now.

After a few hours of nice motosailing, the fog starts lifting and we can see Chester appearing on the horizon. It’ gorgeous and bathed in sunlight. We’re so happy to finally get here - we’ve been waiting for this moment for three years! We pick up a mooring ball and we set off on a tour of Chester aboard our friend’s motorboat. It’s a wet ride due to the choppy seas, but so much fun. The bay is stunning, so it’s great to see it up close.

Later that evening, I need to make good with a promise I made some friends back in Lunenberg… going racing! Nervously, I hop on Falcon, a 34ft sailboat, put on sailing gloves for the first time in my life, and get ready to get stressed out. But there’s exactly 0 knots of wind, so racing isn’t on. The race quickly turns into a boat party: my team enjoy some Nova Scotia cider and swims around the boat while I film it all from the boat because I stupidly forgot to bring my swimsuit. I then invite the guys on board Polar Seal for a dessert dinner, which I highly recommend to anyone with a sweet tooth.

It only took one day for us to decide that Chester is a velcro place. It has the Holy Trinity of Cruising: food, friends, and convenience. So we’ll be staying for a little while. Stay tuned!
